The WTO is central to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which set targets to be achieved by 2030 in areas such as poverty reduction health education and the environment. The SDGs put significant emphasis on the role that trade plays in promoting sustainable development and recognize the contribution that the WTO can make to the 2030 Agenda. By delivering and implementing trade reforms which are pro-growth and pro-development and by continuing to foster stable predictable and equitable trading relations across the world the WTO will play an important role in delivering the Sustainable Development Goals just as it did with the Millennium Development Goals before them. This report identifies steps which would help to ensure that international trade contributes to accelerating progress in achieving the SDGs

Trade can dramatically improve women’s lives creating new jobs enhancing consumer choices and increasing women’s bargaining power in society. It can also lead to job losses and a concentration of work in low-skilled employment. Given the complexity and specificity of the relationship between trade and gender it is essential to assess the potential impact of trade policy on both women and men and to develop appropriate evidence-based policies to ensure that trade helps to enhance opportunities for all. Research on gender equality and trade has been constrained by limited data and a lack of understanding of the connections among the economic roles that women play as workers consumers and decision makers. Building on new analyses and new sex-disaggregated data Women and Trade: The Role of Trade in Promoting Gender Equality aims to advance the understanding of the relationship between trade and gender equality and to identify a series of opportunities through which trade can improve the lives of women.

“World Trade Statistical Review” looks into the latest trends in global trade with in-depth analysis of what is being traded and who the key players are. It also reviews the latest developments in trade policy-making in areas such as trade facilitation and trade-restrictive measures. Analytical chapters are complemented by over 60 tables providing a detailed breakdown of the goods and services being traded and the leading exporters/importers.

Open global trade has had positive effects for African industrialization and development. Keeping markets open and predictable as well as fostering a more generally favourable business environment will be critical to spur renewed investment in Africa and support the continent’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. This report looks at efforts to help African countries build capacity and to take fuller advantage of the benefits that trade brings. It examines various activities and projects the WTO is implementing in the continent including in the areas of trade facilitation compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary regulations and capacity building for trade and production. Le Rapport sur le commerce mondial 2014 examine comment quatre grandes tendances économiques récentes ont modifié la façon dont les pays en développement peuvent se servir du commerce pour favoriser leur développement. Ces tendances sont l'essor économique des pays en développement l'intégration croissante de la production mondiale à travers les chaînes d'approvisionnement la hausse des prix des produits agricoles et des ressources naturelles et la plus grande interdépendance de l'économie mondiale. Le Rapport examine aussi le rôle de l'OMC.

Azevêdo reports trade restrictions down slightly urges G-20 leadership on post-Bali agenda: The WTO’s report on G-20 trade measures issued on 18 June 2014 said that “G-20 members put in place 112 new trade restrictive measures during the period mid November 2013 to mid-May 2014 — slightly down from the 116 new restrictive measures introduced in the previous period from mid-May to mid-November 2013”. Director-General Roberto Azevêdo said that “ it is clear that the coat of trade restrictions has grown a bit thicker over this period…this will not help our efforts to support growth and development around the world — and therefore we must remain watchful”.

The WTO Building provides a fascinating insight into the artwork and architecture of the Centre William Rappard (CWR) home of the World Trade Organization. The book describes the origins and evolution of the CWR highlighting the many works of art created and donated to adorn the building over the years. It covers the extension of the CWR the transformation of an inner courtyard into an atrium and the latest steps taken to preserve the building’s historic artworks.

The Information and Technology Agreement (ITA) was finalized at the first WTO Ministerial Conference in Singapore in 1996 committing its participants to completely eliminate duties on certain information technology products. In its 15 years the ITA has promoted affordable access to a wide range of technologies encouraging closer cooperation between developed and developing countries. As production networks become increasingly global the ITA will continue to facilitate the shift from products made in a specific country to “made in the world”. To mark the 15th anniversary of the ITA this publication charts the political and technical obstacles which were overcome during the creation of the Agreement and the issues which still need to be resolved. It details the establishment of the ITA Committee and how the Agreement is implemented and investigates the impact the ITA has had on trade liberalization and innovation. The publication also examines the effect information technology has had on global production networks and what this means for developing countries and the ITA.

WTO Dispute Settlement: One-Page Case Summaries provides a succinct summary of the key findings of every dispute panel report up to the end of 2014 and where applicable the subsequent Appellate Body report. Each one-page summary comprises three sections: the core facts; the key findings contained in the reports; and where relevant other matters of particular significance. The disputes are presented in chronological order (by dispute settlement number). Two indexes at the end of the publication list the disputes by WTO agreement and by WTO member responding to the complaint.

Concernant le commerce des marchandises les principales exportations et importations de produits agricoles et non agricoles sont répertoriées avec les principales origines et destinations de ces produits. Concernant le commerce des services une ventilation détaillée est donnée pour les services de transport les services relatifs aux voyages et d’autres services commerciaux. La publication contient également des statistiques sur la propriété intellectuelle. Les informations sont disponibles pour tous les Membres de l’OMC et les observateurs et pour certaines autres économies. Par souci de commodité les données pour chaque économie sont présentées sur deux pages ce qui permet d’avoir un aperçu rapide du commerce mondial. La publication est un précieux outil de référence pour tous ceux qui ont besoin de statistiques commerciales de base.
